"BIRDS OF TWEEDDALE"
Dr. Graham Pyatt

After retiring from the Forestry Commission's Research Agency in 1999, Dr Pyatt was able to return to an earlier interest in ornithology. He has now completed 10 years of monitoring the birds of the Manor Valley, and is planning a book. As Secretary of the Borders Branch of the Scottish Ornithologists' Club and the Regional Representative of the British Trust for Ornithology, Graham is also heavily involved in fieldwork throughout Tweeddale for the national bird atlas (2007-11).
Soon after beginning his 10 year bird monitoring project, a neighbour lent him a copy of Charles Morrison's checklist of the birds of Peeblesshire, printed in 1978.  Although it related to a period well before his, he was able to extract a lot of valuable information about the birds of the Manor Valley from it.
Dr. Pyatt's talk will be on birds of Tweeddale, their habitats, distribution, movements, breeding and current trends therein.
